Walk together with family and friends to transform the lives of cancer patients
Walk together with family and friends to transform the lives of cancer patients
THE Banham Marsden March is set to return in 2023 and will again offer both an in-person and virtual option to raise vital funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
The Banham Marsden March’s return on Sunday 14 May 2023 is possible thanks to leading security providers Banham, who first sponsored the walk back in 2015. Banham has generously extended the partnership to 2025 as the title sponsor for both options.
Registration is now open for this inspiring event, which challenges people to walk the 15-mile route between The Royal Marsden’s two hospitals in Chelsea and Sutton or to join in for the final five miles. There is also the chance to enjoy local entertainment and a selection of delicious food at the fun-filled, finish-line celebration.
The Banham Marsden March at Home will also return, allowing you to choose your route and distance as you explore the best of your local area.
Since it began in 2011, the event has raised £15 million for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, thanks to the efforts of the incredible supporters who have taken part. The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity supports the work of The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre, improving the lives of cancer patients everywhere.
Antonia Dalmahoy, Managing Director of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, said:
“We’re thrilled that The Banham Marsden March and The Banham Marsden March at Home will return in 2023. This event is a highlight in The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity’s calendar, and we can’t wait to see our amazing supporters out in force once again.
“We are especially grateful to Banham for their generous support and we are delighted that our partnership will continue in the years to come.”
Among those who walked last year was retired firefighter Malcolm Pearce, 60, from Sutton, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2019 and treated at The Royal Marsden through a clinical trial. Malcolm is now in remission and took part in the 2022 Banham Marsden March alongside his wife Maria and their dog Patch. He will be taking part again this May.
He said:
“I wanted to give something back to this amazing hospital after the care I was given. I signed up for the 15-mile walk, which was a big undertaking for me both physically and mentally – after my diagnosis, I did not know what to expect for the future.
“When I crossed the finish line the feeling of elation was massive, and the crowd and staff from The Royal Marsden were cheering us on. The fact that many friends and colleagues had sponsored me and this went to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity to help people like me and future patients made it all worthwhile.”
Charles Hallatt, Executive Chairman at Banham, said:
“We are very proud to continue our support as title sponsor of The Banham Marsden March and The Banham Marsden March at Home in 2023. Our staff look forward to participating in the March every year and we are committed to raising funds and awareness for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, a cause close to all our hearts at Banham.
“Since 2015, Team Banham has raised over £150,000 supporting the extraordinary work that The Royal Marsden provides cancer patients worldwide. We cannot wait to be on the start line for 2023 and come together once again in support of this incredibly important cause.”
