Walkers shine bright at hospice’s first Reigate Sunrise Walk
On a bright and humid Saturday morning, on the 8th of July, early birds took part in the first-ever Reigate Sunrise Walk to raise vital funds for families supported by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, raising £4,000 and counting.
Following the success of their Richmond Sunrise Walk, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this June, the leading local children’s hospice charity was set to welcome participants to Reigate to embark on a picturesque walk as the sun rose.
53 participants, as well as lots of four-legged companions, gathered for a 4.30am start from Reigate Hill to embark on this unique walk to raise money to support babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families across Surrey and west London.
There were two routes to enjoy, 5km and 15km, which both included a walk around the beautiful grounds of Gatton Park.
Before the walk, participants came together to remember loved ones and lit decorated lanterns to take on the walk, before receiving a bespoke medal post-walk to mark their amazing achievements.
Alexa Dizon, Head of Challenge Events at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices said:
“It was wonderful to hold our first-ever Sunrise Walk in Reigate. It’s such a beautiful area for walks so to experience it as the sun is rising is extra special. We support families across the whole of Surrey, and so it meant so much to be able to hold our event in an area where many families we care for live.
“We’d like to thank everyone who has taken on and supported our Sunrise Walk events this summer – the money raised will go to ensure we can continue to provide vital care for families we support. And if you’d like to try something slightly tougher, why not join us for our Sunrise Trek Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in September!”
