Walkers step out at The Banham Marsden March to transform the lives of cancer patients

THOUSANDS of people took part in The Banham Marsden March on Sunday 14 May, raising in excess of £1.2 million for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The inspiring event challenges people to walk the 15-mile route between The Royal Marsden’s two hospital sites in Chelsea and Sutton, or to join in for the final five miles. Many of those who walk are former or current patients of The Royal Marsden, along with their family, friends and staff from the hospital.

Supporters also took part in The Banham Marsden March at Home on Sunday, taking on their own route and distance in their local area.

The money raised for the Charity will support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. It will help ensure the hospital’s teams continue to provide the very best treatment and care, as well as funding groundbreaking research, the latest equipment and modern patient environments.

Antonia Dalmahoy, Managing Director of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, said: 

“The Banham Marsden March is such a special occasion and it was fantastic to see so many walkers of all ages out in force, coming together to support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. We’re also hugely grateful to those who joined in further afield by taking part in The Banham Marsden March at Home.

 “A huge thank you to all the incredible walkers, their generous sponsors and our dedicated team of volunteers who helped make the day such a success. The amazing amount raised will help improve the lives of cancer patients not only at The Royal Marsden but around the UK and across the world.”

The Banham Marsden March’s return in 2023 was made possible thanks to leading security providers Banham, who first sponsored the walk back in 2015. Banham has generously extended the partnership to 2025 as the title sponsor for both the in-person and virtual walk options.
