WaterAid recognised as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ in 2018

WATERAID has become the first international charity to be recognised as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces in the ranking just published by Great Place to Work®.

This is the first time WaterAid UK has appeared in the highly-regarded ranking of the top places to work, featuring alongside just 127 other organisations across all categories.

Following a rigorous staff survey and audit that showed that staff engagement and wellbeing were particularly high within the organisation, the charity has been placed 37th out of 66 medium-sized organisations (with 50-499 staff) who reached the coveted list.

WaterAid Chief Executive Tim Wainwright said:

“We are delighted that WaterAid has been recognised by its employees as an organisation that promotes trust, pride and wellbeing. As acknowledged by Great Place to Work®, trust drives sustainable engagement, which in turn drives performance.

“We want people to feel inspired and fulfilled, to enjoy their work and to know that they can be their best and give their best, as this is fundamental to our mission to improve access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene in the world’s poorest communities. Wherever we work and whatever job we do, each of us knows we make a difference. Within WaterAid there is a real commitment and shared responsibility to maximise the impact we have.”

Great Place to Work® states that the national average level of trust in UK workplaces is at 55%; WaterAid achieved an impressive score of 83%. Other key highlights that came out of the survey and audit are WaterAid’s staff engagement score of 88%, while its level of wellbeing is at 89%.

Tim Wainwright added:

“We have worked really hard to create a culture of wellbeing and a balance between work and home life, and this focus has been a real success story. The reason it has worked so well is because it is not an ‘add on’, it is a core part of the culture of our organisation, and a lot of it has been driven by staff.”

The opinion of employees is key since the survey that employees answer (Trust Index©) represents two-thirds of the final score to enter the ranking. The remaining third of the score is the Culture Audit©, a business-driven questionnaire that Great Place to Work® uses to understand and evaluate the organisation’s HR and leadership practices, policies and culture.
