YoungMinds welcomes new Chief Executive

Emma Thomas

YOUNGMINDS, the UK’s leading charity fighting for young people’s mental health, is delighted to announce the appointment of Emma Thomas as its new Chief Executive.

Emma is currently a consultant working within the charity sector supporting digital adoption and strategic development. Her work has included support for a range of charities such as Barnado’s, YMCA, London Youth and VInspired and included a number of projects focussing on wellbeing and mental health support for young people.

Previously, Emma was the CEO of YouthNet (now The Mix, following the merger with Get Connected), a leader in online support for young people. Emma has also worked in the commercial sector and for the BBC, developing new services and leading campaigns to drive adoption of new platforms.

Emma said: “Supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing has never been more important, and YoungMinds has played a vital role in championing their needs and ensuring that they get the right support.

“I am delighted to be joining the organisation to build on the brilliant work of Sarah and the team and very much look forward to working with the Trustees, staff and volunteers to ensure we do even more for the young people facing challenges with their mental health.”

Dr Elizabeth Vallance, YoungMinds’ Chair of Trustees, said: “I am delighted that Emma is joining YoungMinds as we celebrate our 25th anniversary, when her experience and enthusiasm will be so important to the next stage in our work with young people’s mental health and resilience.

“The Trustees are much looking forward to working with Emma and, together, to taking this wonderful organisation on to even greater things.”

Emma will take up the role in July and will replace Sarah Brennan, who is stepping down after eleven years with the charity.
