YouTuber raises more than £22K for Rays of Sunshine

RAYS of Sunshine has announced its first-ever game-athon fundraiser, hosted by content creator Daz Black, raised more than £22,000 to help the charity grant more magical wishes for seriously ill children.

Fans, known as ‘dazzlers’, came together for five and a half hours of Halloween-themed gaming. With the help of interactive fundraising platform Tiltify and production company Sassy Plus they were engaged to donate to influence the stream – for example, by donating to vote for different challenges set for Daz as he gamed. GAMINGBible, a LADBible Group brand, generously matched the first £10,000 of donations.

Different fundraising milestones provoked different events, including an all-out ‘Party Mode’ for each £5,000 reached! Other highlights included Daz’s stint in a pumpkin outfit, and his Off The Hook cohost Will challenging him to drink some weird and wild drinks.

Daz played several different games throughout the night, including 5 Nights at Freddy’s, Phasmophobia and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Daz’s biggest fan was able to join him in the studio for the stream, thanks to Rays of Sunshine. 19-year-old James, whose wish to meet Daz was granted by the charity last Halloween, was on hand to set Daz’s challenges and join in on the frightful fun.

James has been a fan of Daz’s for many years but found a renewed love for his videos while undergoing treatment for a brain tumour. He said:

“When I started chemo, it was during a time when all my friends were moving on to college and getting jobs. So, especially while I was in hospital, Daz’s funny videos were so important to me.”

Every penny donated by Daz’s fans will go toward helping Rays of Sunshine grant more wishes for other seriously ill young people like James.

Daz said:

“The entire night was an absolute blast, and I am so grateful to have such amazing supporters, who can help me raise money and awareness for a cause that is so important to me.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a wish with Rays of Sunshine for James – so I’ve seen the magic these wishes offer first-hand. I’m so proud that we’ll be able to make even more wishes happen with the money raised.”

Amy Chambers, Director of Fundraising & Communications at Rays of Sunshine, said:

“We can’t thank Daz, his team and all his fans enough for their generosity and effort put into this ‘spooktacular’ fundraiser.

“Special thanks have to go to GAMINGBible for sponsoring the event and matching £10,000 worth of donations, and partners Sassy Plus and Tiltify, who made this dream a reality.

“Together, we’ve been able to ensure more seriously ill children and young people can have their wishes granted.”

Solly Solomou, CEO of LADbible Group, said:

“We are proud to support such an important cause that will bring joy and smiles to the lives of seriously ill children. Seeing so many people rally together at Daz’s fantastic fundraiser for Rays of Sunshine to champion this cause and spread positivity has been very inspiring.”
